Women-Only Safe Spaces

Nottingham Central Women’s Aid provides women-only safe spaces for survivors of domestic and sexual abuse.

All of our refuge accommodation and recovery programmes are run by women, for women, creating an environment where survivors can feel secure, respected, and supported. We know from decades of experience that many women need female-only spaces to heal from abuse, and this is at the heart of everything we do. Our support is inclusive of non-binary people who are biologically female.

Our services are for biological women and their children. This means all areas of our refuge are women-only. Where male contractors are required for essential work, they are always supervised by female staff, and residents are informed in advance.

We respect the dignity of everyone seeking help. Where someone’s needs fall outside our remit, we will always provide information and referrals to other specialist services, such as Equation (support for men and LGBTQ+ survivors) and Galop (national LGBT+ anti-abuse charity).

By protecting women-only spaces, we ensure that survivors who need them most can access safety, privacy, and the chance to recover.
